Dishwasher Spotting and Limescale Build-Up

Glassware spotting can usually be solved with just a few tricks, and some over-the-counter products. However, if heavy limescale spotting is allowed to continue it will eventually ruin your glassware.

Because heated water evaporates quickly. It may leave hard calcium deposits in the dishwasher after the dishwasher has completed its drying cycle. The pump, plumbing and even inside surfaces of the dishwasher are often coated with old, hard limescale that can be difficult to remove and lowers the dishwasher efficiency.

It is very important to use a dishwasher detergent that offers a clear rinse cycle additive such as Cascade Pure Rinse formula ™ (North America). Avoid using the citrus scented or gel varieties of this product if you have very hard water.

Use a product such as Glass Magic™ to aid in keeping glasses free of deposits. A cup of vinegar added to the final rinse water can be an effective glassware rinse and helps keep the pump and dish racks free of hard water deposits.

Try to use only low or no Phosphate detergents if possible, And make sure your inlet water supply is at least 120 degrees.

The dishwasher itself can be cleaned of hard calcium with a product such as Dishwasher Magic™ or Jet Dry™ dishwasher cleaner (North America). This will speed up the process of hard calcium removal.
.
After a 90 days de-scaling period, the use of these rinsing and cleaning aids in your dishwasher can often be reduced.

It may also be necessary to reduce the amount of detergent used if you find a soap film left on the dishes. Try starting with half of the amount of detergent you normally use.

Increase this amount gradually until your dishes and glassware are sparkling clean.
